My School Video

This project is associated to one of the lessons we are teaching in class My School (Unit 7). 1ESO students of English. Middle class students.This project intends to expand not only the linguistc abilities of 1 ESO students of English but also make them familiar with their school. As this is their first year in the school, they need to know all the facilities and the activities that are carried out so they can make the most of them.

Objetives:
  1. Make the students competent to describe their school and explain it orally in the English language
  2. Learn new vocabulary and grammar structures
  3. Find information from themselves by talking to people, using the internet, the teacher´s wiki, etc.
  4. Turn the proccess of learning into a process to generate knowledge
  5. Learn to work and share in a group
  6. Record and edit a video
  7. Generate group and cooperative creations
  8. Participate in group work in a constructive way, being respectful in every way (to other people´s ideas, turn-taking, etc.)
  9. Insert the final product in the wiki so other people can see, benefit from and enjoy it
Conceptual Contents:
  1. The Comparative and the Superlative
  2. Present Continuous
  3. Pronuntiation of the comparative and the superlative

Procedural Contents:
  1. Vocabulary on school facilities, subjects, schedule
  2. Looking for the appropriate information around the school in order to develop the project
  3. Creation and edition of a video

Attitudinal Contents:
  1. Reflection on children who have no access to education
  2. Value what we have and make the most of it.
  3. Care about our school and its facilities
  4. Participation in all discussions that take place in class (the appropriate way to dress in school, the importance of respecting school mates, school staff , learning to make good use of the school facilities, etc.)
  5. Development of respect and tolerance while working in groups
  6. Development of a certain artistic expresion to record and edit a video
  7. Learning to value computers in class, the need to care for them to work on a daily basis, they are not only to entertain ourselves
  8. Develop a sense of personal achivement in creating something interesting for other students.
  9. Learning to share

Methodology:

  1. First we will work on the level of linguistic and cognitive competence the students have, then, we will find out their previous knowledge
  2. We will work on learning hands on, learning something that is paractical and fuctional
  3. Learning to Learn since students have to solve vocabulary and grammar problems among the resources provided to the group, the necessity to come to an agreement on how to select info, decide what to present in the video, respect other people´s opinions, etc.
  4. Students will work cooperatively, will also learn from mistakes and will learn from the teacher who is guiding them
  5. Students are taught to reflect on the whole process and learn skills and strategies that can be used in other situations
  6. Groups: individual work, pair work, group and whole group work.

Evaluation Criteria
Vocabulary and grammar (80 points)
There is / there are
Use the present simple accordingly/ positive and negative answers.
Vocabulary referring to school places, subjects, people working at the school: principal, etc.
Talk about prices in cafeteria

Presentation (20 points)
Creativity, places other students have not named, music in video, etc.
Each person will talk about two school facilities minimum
Organization of video

Due date
  • The unit takes place in 8 sessions of 55 minutes, the video should be finished by the last session.
